Botulinum Toxin

Botulinum toxins are biological products produced by the bacterium clostridium botulinum. There are different types of botulinum toxins available such as Botox, Dysport, Xeomin and Nuceiva. All products used are Health Canada and FDA approved. All products used are 100% Certified Authentic.

How Do They Work?

 

It acts to temporarily reduce muscle contractions that produce skin creases with facial animation or at rest.

How Long Does It Last?

 

It may start to kick in as early as 3 days post-injection. You will get an appreciation of the full effect 2 weeks post-injection. The benefits typically last for 3-4 months following injections. This depends on the site and respective dose, but this does vary between individuals. Typically one must wait at least 3 months for retreatment.

 

What To Expect On The Day Of Treatment?

 

Johanna will take the time to have a thorough consultation with you. All your questions will be answered. You will be asked to fill out an information form and consent form. Please avoid makeup on the day of treatment. It will need to be removed. Pictures will be taken as part of your medical record. 

Botulinum toxin is injected with a micro-needle into the muscle(s) or areas needing treatment. The pattern and dose of injection will be tailored to individual needs. 

 Injections can sometimes feel like a pinch or stinging sensation. The injection process itself is fairly quick. It is common to have mild swelling after treatment. Bruising is rare but possible. You will be given clear post-treatment instructions.

Contradictions

 

If you are pregnant or breast feeding you will not be eligible for botox treatments. Please note it may be necessary to consult with your prescribing doctor to assess if it is safe for you to stop taking specific medications before your botox treatment. Certain medications like blood thinners or vitamins can be contradicted as they may interfere with blood clotting. As well as certain types of antibiotics with aminoglycoside or other agents that interfere with neuromuscular transmission. They may potentiate the effect of botox. If you have peripheral motor neuropathic or neuromuscular diseases, you may face a higher risk of significant systemic side effects.
